Acai Berry Juice ~ Consumer Guidelines from Better Business Bureau

The Better Business Bureau is recommending community networkers to read the fine print when responding to promotional ads on Facebook or other social-networking websites because the large print doesn’t always tell the complete story.

Ever-present commercials for weight-loss supplements, work-at-home opportunities and offers for “free” computers can cost consumers more in the long run.

Just because an advertisement appears on a Web site they trust doesn’t mean they can always trust the promoters. The following is an illustration of an ad on a social networking site and what the fine print tells:

The pitch: Lose weight
In January, the BBB issued a word of warning to consumers about online announcements and Web sites that use a TV anchors name to sell the Acai berry Juices as weight-loss miracles. These advertisements link to forged blogs that are designed to look like testaments of women who lost weight on the Acai berry juice. Recent study by the CSPI acknowledged more than 75 fake blogs that led to Web sites advertizing the Acai-berry juice.

The fine print

The fake blogs link to Web sites that offer a free trial of an Acai berry juice supplement. While the shoppers may believe they only have to pay shipping, they could get billed as much as $87.13 every month if they don’t revoke before the trial period ends. The fine print also explains that the free Acai berry juice trial period begins from the instant customers order the Acai berry juice supplements and not after they take delivery of the shipments.

BBB warns
Not only do health specialists question the authenticity of the weight-loss claims linked to the Acai berry juice, the BBB has received thousands of criticisms from consumers who were billed even though never receiving their free Acai berry juice trial supplements or were billed every month despite frequent attempts to cancel.

Not all advertisements on social-networking sites are deceptive and misleading ads aren’t restricted to Facebook or MySpace. It’s significant for people to always read the fine print cautiously before giving their credit-card information online.
